Rubisaki Goes on Her Winning Way

Tara Madgwick - Saturday April 4

Joe O’Neill’s Prime Thoroughbreds have raced a lot of good horses over the years, but three year-old Rubick filly Rubisaki may well emerge as the best of them all after claiming another big feature race win in the Group III ATC PJ Bell Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Rubisaki has won five races in succession!

Trained in Victoria by Patrick Payne, Rubisaki has been unstoppable this year winning her past five starts in succession.

Patiently ridden by Nash Rawiller from barrier one, she showed her brilliant turn of foot when angled into clear running to win by a length and a half running away.

She has the imposing record of seven wins and two seconds from nine starts with earnings topping $1million.

"It was a pretty soft win," Rawiller said.

"She steamed through them there and had the race won a long way out.

"I was able to pretty much shut her down late. It was impressive."

Rubisaki as a yearlingAn $85,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Prime Thoroughbreds from the Edinburgh Park draft, Rubisaki was bred by Ian Smith and is the fourth winner from four foals to race from Senro Kisaki, a Sydney metropolitan winner by Danehill Dancer (IRE).

Coolmore’s Colm Santry has had a hand in the extended pedigree of Rubisaki.

He purchased her dam Senro Kisaki as a yearling at the Inglis Scone Sale for $80,000 and he also bought her imported mother Leifling (USA) from the Tattersalls Sales in the UK back in 1996 on behalf of Greg Nattrass, who bred Senro Kisaki.

The Coolmore team were delighted to have Senro Kisaki back at the farm last spring to visit Rubick again and she has a lovely weanling filly by So You Think.

Her current yearling is a colt by Sizzling that was offered by Edinburgh Park at Magic Millions and not surprisingly snapped up by Prime Thoroughbreds for $100,000!

Rubisaki is the current flagbearer for Australia’s leading second crop sire by earnings Rubick, whose Everest winner Yes Yes Yes has been retired to stud and will stand at Coolmore this spring.

Rubick was super popular last spring at the increased fee of $38,500 covering 262 mares.
