Two year-old Shamardal (USA) colt Better Land was sent out favourite for the
1100 metre maiden and gave nothing else a chance when racing clear to win by
three lengths as a short priced favourite.A striking dark brown colt with a prominent white blaze, he was bought by his trainer Peter Moody for $400,000 at Inglis Easter last year from the draft of Edinglassie Stud and looks to possess a measure of his mother's ability.
By champion sire Redoute's Choice, Amelia's Dream was trained by Gai Waterhouse for whom she won on debut at Canterbury by over nine lengths.
At her next start, Amelia's Dream blasted smart filly Hips Don't Lie to win the Group II STC Silver Slipper Stakes by more than six lengths in near course record time.
She broke down in the aftermath of that supersonic win and that was the last we saw of Amelia's Dream as a racehorse.
In her absence, Sebring won the 2008 Golden Slipper, but there is little doubt he would have finished second if Amelia's Dream had gone around.
Amelia's Dream's stud career got off to a tragic start when her first born, a filly by Encosta de Lago called Forget Me Not, broke down fatally in her first barrier trial, so it will be pleasing for her many fans to see Better Land put a win on the board for her today.
Amelia's Dream has no yearling for the sales this year, but as a colt foal by More Than Ready (USA) and was covered last spring by Sepoy.
