Popular NZB Pearl Series Set to Continue

Media Release - Tuesday May 26

The NZB Insurance Pearl Series bonus scheme has seen millions of dollars paid out to Southern Hemisphere-bred filly and mare owners, breeders, trainers and nominators.

The Pearl Series has become an important part of the New Zealand racing calendar and 2020 will mark the seventh year NZB Insurance has sponsored the series.

Pearl Series administrators, the New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders Association, look forward to its continuation and NZTBA CEO Justine Sclater stated that the Pearl Series bonus races have been scheduled in the new season calendar.

“After a discussion with New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing, they have assured me that once funding and the new programme for the season is approved, they will be programming the Pearl Series races.

“NZTR are also expecting to schedule a number of new Pearl Series races into the programme when racing recommences in July 2020,” said Sclater.

The below dates are for July race meetings that will hold Pearl Series bonus races, class and distance will be confirmed in the near future.

  • Canterbury JC – 3 July
  • Waikato RC – 4 July
  • Marton JC – 4 July
  • Wanganui JC – 24 July
  • Counties RC – 25 July
  • Canterbury JC – 25 July

NZB Insurance’s Jim Bruford believes the series plays a vital part in New Zealand racing.

“NZB Insurance have sponsored the valuable bonus series since its inauguration, in conjunction with NZTBA and NZTR.

“It is often a stepping stone to further back-type races provided by both the NZB Filly of the Year and Southern Filly of the Year Series’.

“It’s a great incentive and racing fillies and mares is an integral part of the New Zealand industry.”

NZTBA announced that they were extending the early bird nominations for all Southern Hemisphere fillies born in 2018 until 31 May 2020. Now is your chance to take advantage of the early bird nomination fee of $800 + GST.

Nominate your yearling filly here or by emailing corrina@nzthoroughbred.co.nz. If you wish to discuss further call the Pearl Hotline on 0508 222 202.
