Valentia's Paella

Media Release - Monday June 1

The history of the Paella is much like the history of the Yorkshire Hotpot or the Hungarian Goulash.  It’s a peasant’s meal that utilises local ingredients and leftovers to create a dish that can happily feed a hungry family returning from the fields.

The Paella originated from Valencia and much like the city’s namesake, Group Two winner VALENTIA is on the brink of making something out of nothing.

Valentia

Currently sitting in 16th position in the First Season Sire’s table and with a sole winner from only 5 runners, this is a story of a inexpensive stallion that produced 50 live foals from his first crop and off a $7,700 service fee.

Despite being a million dollar yearling by Fastnet Rock, VALENTIA was unable to land that coveted Group One which means less attention from the types of mares that help to make a stallion.

Recent first start winner, LAND OF VALENS was a Magic Millions graduate and VALENTIA’s most expensive yearling at $130,000. He was the 6th Foal of a Singspiel mare that won the Group 3 Millie Fox and entered into the Gerald Ryan stable as the “Number 1 draft pick” for the stallion.

Connections are planning further success both in town and hopefully in Stakes company. Read about his win here.

Beyond Land of Valens there is a quiet rumbling that this stallion might be a little more pre-potent than the mares that he received in his 1st year at stud.

On the last Wednesday in Autumn EXALTED FIRE sat deep, raced green and off the pace and should have won at Balaklava, while we at Cornerstone spent the entire Autumn watching the Anthony Cummings trained FAYERRA deliver consistent effort, after consistent effort at the elite level and providing her sire with a 4th in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes and a placing in the Listed Fernhill Stakes.

We also wait with eager anticipation for the debut run for the Michael Costa trained HARVESTA (ex. Accuse), that has shown promise in both jumpouts to date.

So, if you are contemplating a deal with upside and don’t know what to order…. please consider VALENTIA at an advertised fee of $5,500.

Furthermore, mention this press-release before the Queen’s Birthday long weekend and Cornerstone will give you a VALENTIA nomination at a special 40% discount ($3,300 inc GST).
