What Does a Good Pierro Look Like?

Tara Madgwick - Friday January 8

As we head into the sales season every yearling buyer thinks they know what they are looking for, but do they? This new Breednet innovation seeks to shed light on what the best progeny of a sire looked like as yearlings so we can maybe learn a lesson going forward, this time we look at a super versatile sire in Pierro.

Pierro was a Golden Slipper winner and a Champion 2YO that went undefeated through his juvenile season winning the Breeders Plate on debut and ultimately the 2YO Triple Crown, no juvenile in recent times has gone even close to what he did.

He then returned at three to only compete in the best races winning the Group I George Ryder Stakes, finishing third in a Cox Plate and second in a Doncaster under 57kg on a heavy 10 track.

The best ever colt by Lonhro, he never missed a place in 14 starts, so when we talk about colts that danced every dance, Pierro was all that and more.

From our data base of images we have put together a selection Pierro stakes-winners pictured as yearlings that offer some real insight into his offspring.

As fast and precocious as Pierro was as a racehorse, his pedigree always suggested stamina reserves and that’s what we see in his stock, a real mix of classic horses as well as the quicker sprinting types such as his $5.8 million earner Pierata.

Pierro has become noted for producing serious horses that can run in the really big races for older horses, which is why five of his six Group I winners have earned $1.5million or more.

Below are all the Pierro Magic Millions yearlings with images currently uploaded, which ones are the stakes-winners of the future?
