Mallory Stakes a Claim for the Golden Slipper

Mark Smith - Saturday January 30

Second behind Enthaar in the Group III Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick in October, the Not A Single Doubt filly Mallory put herself in the Golden Slipper picture by opening her account in Saturday’s Group III Widden Stakes at Rosehill Gardens.

A perfectly times finish by Jason Collett on Mallory (Steve Hart)

Ridden by Jason Collett for trainers Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou, Mallory was three back the rails as the Gimcrack Stakes third Total Babe took up the running.

Collett extracted Mallory from a pocket shortly after turning for home. Total Babe was not about to give in without a fight. The daughter of I Am Invincible could not hold the strong finishing Mallory who scored by a length.

Godolphin’s Teofilo filly Vianello was a half-length back in third.

“She’s well-schooled and Jason got her in a nice rhythm,” Alexiou said.

uo;They went along quick enough, neither slow nor overly fast. I was impressed by knowing how much improvement she has got in her.

“She will derive great benefit fitness-wise from that.

“I think when she steps up to 1200m or 1400m, you will see the best of her.

Hard to miss that face. Mallory Jason Collett (Steve Hart)

“We will speak to the ownership group and shoot the breeze. We will let her plot the best path, whether we end up in a Slipper a Sires’ or the Percy Sykes.

“She will make a nice filly in time.”

Bred and raced by bred by Arrowfield Stud and Cloros Bloodstock and partners, Mallory is a half-sister to the Listed  CJC Welcome Stakes winner Sassy ‘N’ Smart (Smart Missile) out of the imported mare Panorama Ridge (USA).

A daughter of Empire Maker, Panorama Ridge (USA) is a daughter of the top-class storm Cat mare Nebraska Tornado. Her four wins included the Group 1 Prix de Diane and Group 1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp.

Panorama Ridge (USA) has a colt by Pariah catalogued for the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale (lot 233).

After missing to Pariah in 2019, Panorama Ridge (USA) was covered by Dundeel last spring.

Mallory becomes the 75th stakes-winner for Arrowfield Stud’s pensioned Not A Single Doubt who holds a $2 million lead atop the General Sires Table.
