Tara Madgwick - Wednesday February 17

Flashy Zoustar colt Lightsaber took another step towards the Group II VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes with a bold front running win at Sandown on Wednesday.

The silver tailed bay with three white feet broke his maiden at his second start at Sandown on February 3 and repeated the performance today, albeit winning even more impressively.

Stepped up to 1400m, Lightsaber led all the way for Dean Yendall and forged clear at the finish to win by more than two lengths in a dominant display.

“Every time he’s gone to the races he’s improved,” said stable representative Katherine Coleman.

“The Sires Produce is certainly a possibility. He’ll go to the water walker for four or five days after this and we’ll see how he pulls up.”

Lightsaber has already returned over $85,000 in prizemoney from his first three starts making him a cheap purchase at $100,000 for Blueblood Thoroughbreds, who secured him at the 2020 Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale last October.

The son of Zoustar had been pinhooked by JCS Racing for $80,000 out of the Aquis Farm draft at the 2020 Classic Yearling Sale

Bred by Emirates Park, Lightsaber is the second foal and first to race out of the unraced Dream Ahead (USA) mare Dream Cirque.

A half-sister to stakes-placed winner Distant Rock, Dream Cirque is a granddaughter of Fastnet Rock’s sister Cirque du Soleil.

Dream Cirque was covered last spring by Tassort and has a yearling colt by Pariah and a colt foal by Capitalist.
