Marboosha Reaps Her Reward in Gold Coast Guineas

Mark Smith - Saturday May 8

Off the board in just one of her nine starts to date, Emirates Park Stud’s Dream ahead (USA) filly Marboosha was rewarded for her consistency in Saturday’s Group III Gold Coast Guineas (1200m).

Ridden by Jim Byrne, the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained filly took the lead shortly after turning for home. Keeping up a strong gallop, Marboosha defeated the Wandjina gelding Tramonto by a length with a half-head back to the Bel Esprit filly Kisukano in third.

It was the second stakes in for Marboosha following her victory in the Listed Incognitus Stakes at Flemington on May 6. She advances her record to four wins, three seconds and a third from nine starts with earnings of $327,225.

Paul Snowden said he was concerned when Marboosha could not find cover in the run.

“It was probably not the ideal scenario for her because she still does not know how to switch off without the cover,” Paul Snowden said.

“We felt that two starts ago when she was very plain late (when fourth in the Listed Darby Monro Stakes).

“Over the concluding stages, she was probably all out and was a bit vulnerable, but she was too good in the end.”

Marboosha will not press on at the Brisbane Winter Carnival and will be spelled.

A homebred for Emirates Park, Marboosha is the first foal of the unraced Exceed And Excel mare Boomex.

A daughter of the Group II STC Reisling Slipper Trial Stakes and Group II Silver Slipper Stakes runner-up Boom Time Savings (Secret Savings), Boomex has a yearling filly by Flying Artie that was purchased by Ciaron Maher Bloodstock for $130,000 at the Gold Coast in January.

After foaling a No Nay Never colt last spring, Boomex was covered by I Am Invincible.
