Baker's Dozen for Widden

Greg Tobin - Sunday September 5

It was a remarkable Saturday of racing for Widden Stud with seven of its stallions producing 12 winners throughout Australia : eight of those in the city and stakes winners for both Nicconi and Zoustar - And just to top it off, the late and great Widden sire, Sebring, also weighed in with a Group II victory via Superstorm in the Feehan Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Nicconi stands his first season in Victoria this spring at a fee of $27,500, click for more information.

Nicconi (4 winners) was undoubtedly the star of the show with Nature Strip returning in a blaze of glory courtesy of his demolition job in the Group 3 Concorde at Randwick (Nicconi’s 3YO gelding, Jerry, won the opening even on the program), while Aston Rapova captured the penultimate at Morphettville.

The South Australian track was indeed a happy hunting ground for Widden with Star Witness grabbing his 23rd winner in the last 30 days with Apache Star, while Widden Victoria stablemate, Fiorente, won the fifth with Melody Man and the lucky last at Moonee Valley (Don’t Doubt Dory).

Zoustar stand at a fee of $154,000, click for more information.

Bel Esprit (Je Suis Belle at Eagle Farm), Outreach and Your Song likewise chimed in with winners but Widden’s banner horse, Zoustar, has possibly again given us a glimpse into the crystal ball with the very exciting filly, Zouzarella, who made it two from two with a blistering performance in the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes – providing Zoustar with his 24th stakes winner.

Each of the Widden Stud stallions is featured on Breednet’s Premium Online Stallion Directory.
