Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Monday January 24

There were plenty of established stars on show at the Randwick trials on Monday with heat winners including Eduardo, Converge and Lost and Running, plus plenty of juvenile action with five heat winners and a filly that didn’t win, but certainly caught the eye as the last foal of a legendary blue hen.

One juvenile heat was contested over 1050m and the winner was Hellbent colt To His Credit, who was having his first trial back after a let up following two trials last October.

The Peter and Paul Snowden trained colt was allowed to settle early, but was given a good hurry along by Hugh Bowman when balanced up in the straight and responded to solid riding to swoop home and win by half a length running away.

A $50,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Triple Crown Syndications from the Fairview Park draft, To His Credit is a half-brother to two winners from metro winning Flying Spur mare Bec Said No Credit, who comes from the family of $1.9million earning Group II winner Grey Song.

Four other two year-old heats were run over 743m with winners Black Tahitian (Deep Field), Spacewalk (Exosphere), Russian Roni (Russian Revolution) and Xtravagant Star (Xtravagant), who was the fastest of the quartet clocking 43.55 seconds.

The Tony and Calvin McEvoy trained filly won on debut at Geelong on January 6 and is in town for the $2million Inglis Millennium on February 5.

Xtravagant Star did everything right and led all the way to win by half a length over late closing filly Miss Faberge, who turned in an eye-catching trial.

A small filly that has needed some time, Miss Faberge was last of eight in a trial back in October albeit only beaten four and a half lengths and has obviously taken benefit from her break away from work.

Trained by John Sargent, Miss Faberge unwound a good finish from back in the field and was doing her best work on the line for Rachel King.

Miss Faberge is a homebred for Sir Owen Glenn’s Go Bloodstock and is the prized last living foal from his blue hen Mica’s Pride, who was retired from stud duties last year.

The Russian Revolution filly is the 12th living foal from Group III winner Mica’s Pride, who has had 11 of those foals go to the races and all of them have won…. No pressure Miss Faberge!!

Miss Faberge is a half-sister to $7million earner and four time Group I winner Criterion, Group I winner Comin’ Through, Group II winner Varenna Miss and stakes-winner Silently.
