Juvenile Trial Watch - Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Monday February 14

Four heats for two year-olds at Warwick Farm on Monday morning and Annabel Neasham won two of them with exposed youngsters Man in the Mirror and Lady Laguna while the unraced half-brother to Group I ATC Champagne Stakes winner Captivant was a winner at his first public outing.

At $1.8million, Man in the Mirror is the most expensive yearling by Not a Single Doubt ever sold and is certainly showing plenty of promise. He beat subsequent Inglis Millennium runner-up Paris Dior when winning on debut at Warwick Farm in December and this was his second trial back since then.

He was strong on the line and clocked the fastest time of the four 2YO heats running 47.40 on a heavy 8 surface.

Fast finishing Fireburn (Rebel Dane) will be worth following back to the races having beaten Blue Diamond Prelude winner Revolutionary Miss when she saluted at Randwick on New Year’s Day.

Man in the Mirror has a half-brother by Zoustar headed to Inglis Easter as Lot 329 for Emirates Park.

With two wins and a stakes-placing from three starts, Overshare filly Lady Laguna looked like the polished article in her trial forging to the lead under Hugh Bowman and running right through the line in the manner of a filly busting to get back to the races.

Well named Hellbent colt Warby (wonder if his stable name is Ken!) made a winning first appearance for the Maher Eustace stable showing good racecraft to win his heat by a neck under James McDonald.

He began OK, then mustered speed to race forward and take a position behind the leaders and when angled between runners hit the line well to win held together.

A $300,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Ashleigh Thoroughbreds draft for Suman Hedge/ Maher Bloodstock, Warby is the half-brother to Group I winner Captivant and his dam Speddboat has another Hellbent yearling colt headed to Inglis Easter to be offered by Yarraman Park as Lot 440.
