Belated Stakes Success for Nostradamus Mare Clairvoyance

Mark Smith - Sunday February 20

Although it took a bit longer than expected, the Darren McAuliffe Clairvoyance has come back from the brink of death to earn her first stakes win with a dominant performance in Sunday’s Listed Pinjarra Classic (1300m).

A first stakes-winner for Rosemont Stud’s Nostradamus, Clairvoyance led at every call under Chris Parnham to defeat Coming Around (Gingerbread Man) by four and a quarter length in track record time.

Son Of Bacchus (Playing God) was a length further back in third.

The 4yomare advances her overall record to seven wins and a second from ten starts with earnings of $521,550.

Clairvoyance was the talking horse in the west after reeling off four consecutive wins and five of his first six starts dating back to her 2yo debut at Belmont in July 2020.

Her career was derailed by a knee injury and colic, the severity of which is recounted by McAuliffe in this interview by The Races WA.

A homebred for Impressive Racing, Clairvoyance is the fifth foal and third winner out of the well-performed Perugino mare Dance On Air.

Campaigned by David Moodie’s Contract Racing, Dance On Air won six races in Melbourne where she seemed to have an affinity with Caulfield, which was the scene for three of her wins.

After not having a foal for three seasons after Clairvoyance, Dance On Air produced a Universal Ruler colt last spring and was bred back to Snippetson.

Clairvoyance is flying the flag for Rosemont Stud’s Nostradamus. The Medaglia d’Oro (USA) half-brother to Star Witness stood for a fee of $5,500 last season.
