No Compromise Claims The Metropolitan

Mark Smith - Saturday October 1

Remarkable broodmare Baggy Green was expected to have a leading Group 1 Metropolitan Hcp prospect in Benaud, but when that son of Reliable Man scratched due to accidentally being treated with a prohibited substance on Tuesday morning, it paved the way for Benaud's older half-brother No Compromise to uphold the family honour.

Ridden by Tommy Berry for Chris Waller, the 6yo son of Pins defeated Le Don De Vie (GB) (Leroidesanimaux ) by a nose with Realm Of Flowers (So You Think) a half-head back in third.

The winner of the Group III ATC Queen's Cup in March, No Compromise advances his record to seven wins, five seconds, and eight thirds from 30 starts, with earnings of $860,220.

"He has a great family from New Zealand behind him," Waller said.

"It’s a special win. He’s been building up to that. He’s been a bit unlucky. He doesn’t like the real wet tracks.

“Today, even though it’s heavy, they are getting through it better than they were in the autumn, and that was a help to him, and I think that 2400m is the cap on his distance range as he showed today.

“He might need to grow a few lengths over the next few weeks to be a Caulfield Cup chance.

“We will enjoy the win, albeit a narrow one.”

Besides the Group 1 ATC SDeerby runner-up Benaud, Baggy Green is the dam of 4-time Group 1 winner Tofane. The daughter of Ocean Park was a $3,100,000 purchase for the Written Tycoon Syndicate at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

No Compromise was a more modest $40,000 purchase from the Curraghmore draft at Karaka in 2018.

Gordon Cunningham purchased Baggy Green for $23,000 from the Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale in 2013.

The daughter of Galileo had initially been purchased by Dermot Farrington for $130,000 at the 2010 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

The half-sister to Group 1 winners Funstar and Youngstar sold for $1,750,000 at the Valachi Downs mares dispersal sale.
