Thoroughbreds Fly High at Stonewall National Titles

Tara Madgwick - Saturday November 19

Perfect spring weather at Stonewall Equestrian on Friday provided the backdrop to some dazzling showjumping with the $20,000 Six Bar Contest producing a national height record for a registered thoroughbred when young Hunter Valley rider Charlie Richardson cleared 1.75m in his final run on Bite the Bullet (USA) gelding Mavrick.

Charlie Richardson and Mavrick earn a place in the record books with this 1.75m winning jump..

In front of a great crowd over 30 riders contested the TSHA National Six Bar Title sponsored by OTI Equine Welfare Program and Hawkesbury River Saddle Co.

The field featured Olympian eventer Shane Rose as well as young gun eventers Sam Woods and Shenae Lowings, whose horse Bold Venture is just returned to Australia after contesting the World Championships of eventing in Italy earlier this year.

Emily Patterson and Libertarian were game in defeat.

Shenae and Bold Venture cleared 1.60m, but came out in the round after with Emily Patterson on Libertarian clearing 1.70m paving the way for a crack at a 1.75 run.

Four horses attempted the feat and one emerged triumphant and that was 18yo Charlie Richardson on Mavrick, a horse he has ridden all the way up the ranks from interschools events through open juniors and to young rider classes this year.

Charlie now holds the Australian and World Record for Stud Book registered thoroughbreds at 1.75m!!

The man of the moment - Charlie Richardson talks to commentator Martin Gostelow after his win!

Congratulations to all competitors for such a spectacle and the bravery shown by you and your wonderful thoroughbreds.

RESULTS are as follows:

1. CHARLIE RCIHARDSON – Mavrick (Bite the Bullet (USA)

=2. EMILY PATTERSON – Libertarian (Statue of Liberty (USA)

=2. SHANE ROSE - Glenorchy South Park (Kinjite)

4. KALEB MCINTOSH - El Davino (Gundane)

=5. GEMMA SILK - Oscar Boscaiola (NZ) (Pentire (GB)

=5. SHENAE LOWINGS - Bold Venture (Devaraja)

=5. SARAH WEISS – Waratone (Mossman)

The winner Mavrick is a 15yo gelding by Bite the Bullet with the racing name of Twelvebore. He raced four times for one placing at Narrabri and was retired from racing in 2012, so has had 10 years of education to become a record breaker!

Pedigree of a champion jumper!

The show continues through Saturday and Sunday so if you are keen to see our thoroughbreds showing their talents away from the track get up to Stonewall Equestrian this weekend for some wonderful warm hospitality and top class competition.
