Tosen Stardom's Shuriken Captures Eureka Stockade

Mark Smith - Saturday November 19

The $175,000 VOBIS Gold Eureka Stockade (1400m) at Ballarat settled down to a dogfight between the Symon Wilde stablemates Shuriken and Street Delight.

The progressive Tosen Stardom (Jpn) gelding Shuriken fought on strongly to defy the Street Boss filly Street Delight by three-quarters of a length.

The Showdown hero Kings Consort (Ilovethiscity) was two and a half lengths back in third.

Shuriken honoured Woodside Park’s dual Group 1-winning Deep Impact stallion with his first winner when successful on debut at Casterton before finishing sixth behind the exciting Hellbent filly Magic Time in the Listed Amanda Elliot at Flemington.

“It’s great to be a part of these races. They are quite lucrative, and these horses fitted the criteria,” Wilde said.

“We thought it was a lovely race for both of them, and with the rain coming, that probably went in their favour a little bit. They are proven on wet tracks.

“Matt Sellick bought him (Shuriken) and syndicated him. He took a little bit of time to develop, but he’s a really nice three-year-old.

“We’ve got a big opinion of him. He won his maiden beautifully, and we took him to town over the carnival at Flemington, but he was just a little bit green.

“He’s a developing horse, and we had one eye on the Sandown Guineas, but when this eye came up we thought we would go for the easier option. I think he’s got a bright future.

“We’ll see what happens, but if we give him a spell, I think he will really improve. He might end up in a nice race in the autumn.”

Bred by Noorilim Park Thoroughbreds, Shuriken runs for a big group of owners and is the fifth winner from Petroica, a half-sister by Anabaa (USA) to Listed winner Mustaagel (Pentire) and stakes-placed Juggernaut Rock (Stratum) from Group II winner and Group 1 placed Frenetic (Truly Vain).

Petroica was not covered in 2019 or 2020.

Group 1 MRC Toorak Handicap and Group 1 VRC Emirates Stakes winner Tosen Stardom (JPN) stands at Woodside Park for a fee of $7,700.
