Fashion Legend Wins G3 Vo Rogue Stakes

Tara Madgwick - Saturday December 31

In a week when we saw the passing of fashion icon Vivienne Westwood it only seems appropriate that Fashion Legend would post the biggest win of his career to date.

The familiar colours of Bon Ho have been carried by some quality horses including Everest winner Classique Legend with his up and coming sprinter Fashion Legend coming of age with a stylish win in the Group III BRC Vo Rogue Plate (1350m) at Doomben on New Year’s Eve.

Trained by Richard and Will Freedman, Fashion Legend broke his maiden winning the feature two year-old race at the Grafton Cup carnival in July and has made good progress in his current preparation.

The three year-old gelding won at Gosford and Eagle Farm leading into his first Black Type assignment and he rose to the challenge to make it three wins on the trot.

Ridden by Ben Thompson, he scored a neck win over race favourite Count da Beans and has now won four of seven starts earning over $282,000 in prizemoney.

Fashion Legend has been in the care of Brisbane trainer Brian Smith for the last few weeks and he was not surprised by the win.

“He’s an improving little horse and he’ll improve a lot from now,” said Smith.

Fashion Legend will head next to the $2million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas on January 14 where he will be aiming for four wins in a row.

Fashion Legend was bred and sold by Rosemont Stud.

A $260,000 Magic Millions purchase for Bon Ho from the Rosemont Stud draft, Fashion Legend was bred by Rosemont and is the second winner from Sarong, a winning sibling to the dams of multiple Group I winner Fashions Afield and Group III winner Runway Star from dual Group I winner Wrap Around.

Sarong had a colt by North Pacific this year and was then covered by Deep Field’s Group I winning son Portland Sky.

Fashion Legend is the 23rd stakes-winner and the eighth in Australia this season for Deep Field, who has 54 entries for Magic Millions.

He is the first stakes-winner for Deep Field from a daughter of champion sire Exceed and Excel, however there have been 15 winners from 18 runners bred that way, so Black Type success was probably well overdue.
