One to Watch – Newcastle

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday January 17

She’s a half-sister to the hottest sire in New Zealand right now and she broke her maiden at Newcastle on Tuesday.

Three year-old filly Dear Jewel was resuming from a spell in the 1200m maiden and the Hawkes Racing trained daughter of Snitzel proved too good for the short priced favourite Shalatin.

By champion sire Sntizel, Dear Jewel is a homebred for Tony Falcone, who also raced her famous siblings, Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas winner Divine Prophet and Group II winner Proisir, who has set New Zealand racing alight this season siring four Group I winners.

Dear Jewel is a half-sister to Rich Hill Stud's rising star sire Proisir.

Dear Jewel is the sixth winner from seven foals to race from Prophet Jewel, a metro winning Encosta de Lago mare who has a yearling filly by Brutal still to come.
