Peters Investments Star Mares Confirmed for Chairman's Sale

Media Release - Sunday January 29

Peters Investments’ star mares Graceful Girl (Nicconi) and Celebrity Miss (More Than Ready) are the latest headline acts confirmed for this year’s The Chairman’s Sale.

Graceful Girl reached the pinnacle of her racetrack career when winning the G1 Winterbottom Stakes in 2021.

In winning the prestigious 1200m sprint, Graceful Girl clocked a faster time than Paulele’s Winterbottom victory in November last year as well other high-class recent winners of the race including Miss Andretti, Takeover Target, Buffering, Ortensia, Viddora etc.

Celebrity Miss is a particularly rare commodity as a proven G1 producer to be offered at public auction in Australasia.

By More Than Ready out of dual G1-winning Marscay mare Miss Margaret, Celebrity Miss has already shown her extraordinary worth as a broodmare, being the dam of 2021 G1 Oakleigh Plate winner Celebrity Queen.

Celebrity Queen then sold for a sale-topping $2.5m to Coolmore at The Chairman’s Sale three months after her Oakleigh Plate success.

“We are reluctant sellers of mares, especially from our top families but it has to be done because we run a business,’’ Bob Peters said.

“Graceful Girl will be a particularly difficult one to part with as we never really saw the best of her. She was a later foal and we took a patient approach with her, as we do with them all. She won her Group 1 coming from last to run away on the line in a fast time and was really starting to mature into herself.

“She went to Melbourne and things didn’t work out but I think she was very, very good. Everything out of the dam is a winner and it’s a very tough, fast, honest family.

“It is our policy not to serve mares that we are considering selling so as to keep the business viable. This enables purchasers to get a nice early start with a stallion of their choice.’’

Graceful Girl and Celebrity Miss join an already impressive early list of Chairman’s Sale entries, which includes the three-time G1 placed sprinting mare Swats That (Shamus Award), mares in foal to the likes of American sire sensation Gun Runner and Champion European sire Frankel, as well as the likes of Extreme Choice, Home Affairs, Stay Inside etc.

Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch noted it was a “privilege” to have the opportunity to present mares of such quality to the market on behalf of the Peters family.

“We’re extremely grateful to Bob and Sandra Peters, they showed unwavering support by offering Celebrity Queen at the Chairman’s in 2021 and were thrilled with the result and to have them back again in the sale this year with these two outstanding mares is humbling,’’ Hutch said.

“The breeding and racing operation that Bob has developed over decades is one of the most effective anywhere in the world, so this is a fantastic opportunity for buyers to acquire quality mares from families that have been carefully cultivated by a master of his craft.

“The Chairman’s sale is again shaping as one of the nights of the year globally for our industry and with several other outstanding mares to be announced for the catalogue in coming weeks, it’s undoubtedly going to be another memorable evening at Riverside in May.’’

Places in the 2023 Chairman’s Sale are again limited, so interested parties are encouraged to contact a member of the Inglis Bloodstock team to discuss your options.
