Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Monday February 6

Five heats for the juveniles at Randwick on Monday morning and all won by unraced youngsters with two in particular catching the eye as they matched motors with a couple of proven stakes class two year-olds.

Group III ATC Gimcrack Stakes winner Platinum Jubilee was last seen finishing second in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and she was given a good hit out, although shaded on the line by Trapeze Artist colt Introducing, who was having his first ever trial.

Pierro filly Tu Qui Santuzza impressed us when winning her only previous trial and again rattled home for third here with all three place-getters trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.

A $380,000 Inglis Easter purchase for the James Harron Bloodstock Colt Partnership from the Edinburgh Park draft, Introducing is a half-brother to $3.1million earning stakes-winner Eleven Eleven.

Also coming out of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic was another Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained filly in Summer Loving, who was second in her trial behind unraced Capitalist colt Capital Boss, trained by Ron Quinton.

Capital Boss was having his second trial and improved sharply to charge home over the  top of the filly.

Capital Boss was the sale-topper at the 2021 Inglis Weanling Sale selling for $400,000.

Capital Boss topped the 2021 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale when fetching $400,000 for Middlebrook Valley Lodge and purchased by Gall Bloodstock / P Morgan. He is a half-brother to Group III winner Shamalia (dam of G3 winner Nanagui) and stakes-winner Emperor’s Way being from good producer Laylia.

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott also put the polish on expensive Written Tycoon colt Butch Cassidy, another James Harron Bloodstock purchase that was successful at his first public outing, although there was much to like about runner-up Need Some Luck, a three-quarter brother to champion sprinter Chautauqua.

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, the Rubick colt was very green but hit the line well and will take a lot of improvement from this outing.

Butch Cassidy was a $750,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Milburn Creek draft and is the first foal of Rose Ahead, a half-sister by Dream Ahead (USA) to Group III winner Daytona Grey and stakes-winner Mail It In.

Dundeel has had a few nice 2YO winners lately and the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Vomo Island might add to that list judging by this strong finishing trial win at his second trial this prep.

A homebred for Greg Ingham, Vomo Island is a half-brother to stakes-winner Wayupinthesky from Group II placed Lonhro mare The Darling One.

The Bjorn Baker trained Hellbent filly Helldancer impressed winning her first trial last month and while she finished second this time, she did so well held together and made the John Sargent trained No Nay Never (USA) colt Waverley work for the win.

Waverley was a $70,000 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale purchase from the Newhaven Park draft for John Sargent Racing/Rick Connolly Bloodstock, while Helldancer was a $140,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the draft of Yarraman Park and they will offer her full sister at the sale this year as Lot 241.

Inglis Classic Lot 241 is a full sister to Helldancer.
