First Stakes Winner for Showtime as Show Royale Captures Cinderella Stakes

Mark Smith - Monday March 13

The long weekend gets better and better for Arrowfield Stud as Show Royale led home a strong interstate challenge in the Listed Thomas Farms Cinderella Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville on Monday to credit Showtime with his first Stakes winner.

After Arrowfield’s flagship stallion Snitzel celebrated Super Saturday with Shinzo and Scallopini, the high-profile new boy The Autumn Sun celebrated his first stakes winner with Autumn Ballet in the Group III Black Opal Stakes on Sunday.

It was the turn of Showtime to celebrate the milestone as the Lloyd Kennewell-trained Show Royale kept her record at a perfect two for two in the Cinderella Stakes (1050m).

Given the run of the race by Joe Bowditch, Show Royale did best in a driving finish to defeat the Nicconi filly Bossy Nic by a neck with the Toronado (IRE) filly Shesallshenanigans a long-head back in third.

Show Royale made a winning debut when unfancied in a 1000m maiden at Bendigo on February 18.

uo;She had two jumpouts and won both before she hit a pothole in an official trial at Geelong and was eased out,” Kennewell said.

She went to a trial at Flemington, finished second last, and was beaten a fair way.

“Joe Bowditch thought she could win first up. We bet we won, and today we bet and won.

‘We bought her at the Inglis Classic, me and my bloodstock agent Matt Becker, who will be watching this at home. Santo (owner Santo Guagliardo) thought she looked like a Snitzel filly. He is like a second father to me and is a massive supporter.”

Show Royale an $85,000 Inglis Classic yearling

An $85,000 purchase for Kennewell Racing / Group 1 Bloodstock (FBAA) / Ridgeport Holdings from the Goodwood Farm draft at the Highway session of the 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale,  Show Royale is the fourth winner from as many to race for the Royal Academy (USA) mare Ducey Du.

A half-sister to Group II STC Phar Lap Stakes winner Acey Ducey, Ducey Du died in 2021, and Show Royale is her final foal.

A handsome son of Snitzel, Showtime has two winners from six runners. His promising son Tacito debuted with a third in the Group III Chairman’s Stakes at Flemington. He filled the same place in Listed Talindert Stakes before winning the Magic Millions Adelaide 2yo Classic at Murray Bridge.
