Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Friday March 17

Just three heats on Friday morning at Warwick Farm for two year-olds, but the winners included the most expensive yearling by Vancouver sold last year and a $1.4million Snitzel colt that has had four trials now for three wins.

Gai Waterhouse trained Vancouver to win the 2015 Golden Slipper and she and training partner Adrian Bott put the polish on Vancouver colt Vanquished, who turned in a nice effort at his first trial to surge home and win by a neck.

A $450,000 Magic Millions purchase for TFI from the Vinery Stud draft, Vanquished was the highest priced Vancouver sold in that year and is from a three-quarter sister to Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Delectation from the family of dual Group I winner Artorius.

It's not hard to see why Vanquished was the most expensive yearling by Vancouver sold in 2022.

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott also prepare blue-blood Snitzel colt Head of the Herd for Sir Owen Glenn’s Go Bloodstock. He was having his fourth trial and second this preparation when shaken up by Tim Clark to win by a neck.

He is a three-quarter brother to dual Group I winning $2.4 million earner Stratum Star and G1 placed Group III winner Prague being from top producer Purely Spectacular, who has had five foals to race all winners.

Also winning for the Waterhouse Bott stable was Maurice (Jpn) filly Azula winning by more than a length at her third trial.
