$1.2million Filly for The Autumn Sun – New Benchmark for Sire

Tara Madgwick - Monday April 3

Arrowfield Stud young gun The Autumn Sun sired his first million dollar yearling at Inglis Easter on Monday when the full sister to Group III Canberra Black Opal Stakes winner Autumn Ballet sold for $1.2million.

Bred and offered by Arrowfield, the fourth foal of blue-blood Street Cry (IRE) mare Grisi was bought by Emirates Park.

She comes with a big pedigree as her grand-dam is a full sister to champion racehorse and sire Lonhro and the family has produced a couple of new stakes-winners this year in Golden Slipper runner-up Cylinder and his Group winning half-sister Parsifal.

“The Autumn Sun has done a great job and she’s a full sister to Autumn Ballet so you have to pay a bit extra,” Brian McGuire of Emirates Park told Jemma Cutting of Inglis.

“There’s a lot of Street Cry about her and she’s probably a stronger filly than Autumn Ballet last year.”

Autumn Ballet won the Black Opal on debut and the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained filly is entered for the $1million Group II ATC Percy Sykes Stakes on Saturday.

Grisi had a colt by The Autumn Sun late last spring and appears to have been given the year off after that.
