Stakes Goals for Russian Revolution Colt

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday April 19

The $1million Group II BRC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) at the end of May is on the radar  for talented Russian Revolution colt General Salute, who resumed from a spell to win a very competitive juvenile maiden at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Trained by Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou, General Salute was third on debut at Rosehill in January behind subsequent Group winning juveniles Red Resistance and Steel City.

He was tuned up with a recent trial win and delivered a strong performance for Brenton Avdulla racing forward to lead and showing his class to the line to win the 1200m contest by a length and a half.

uo;Brenton took bad luck out of the equation by going forward and that should see him get enough prizemoney to get into some of the better races,” said Sterling Alexiou.

“He’s a horse with a nice future and you could see in that last 100m when he started to knuckle down and gather himself he was able to extend away from them.

“I’d like to think we could win a 1400m race with him and push on to the Sires (G2 BRC Sires Produce) or possibly even further up in Brisbane.”

General Salute looks a stakes prospect for Russian Revolution, whose fee has climbed to $88,000 at Newgate Farm.

Retained to race by his breeder, General Salute is a three-quarter brother to Group II ATC Villiers Stakes winner Brutality and is the fourth winner from four foals to race from Stakes-placed General Nediym mare Star Salute.
