Metro Treble Highlights Foxwedge Value

Tara Madgwick - Sunday April 30

Woodside Park are welcoming Shalaa (IRE) to their roster this spring and he sired a new G1 performer on Saturday in Jennilala and a new stakes-placed 2YO Chill the Krug, but the farm’s ever reliable Foxwedge was also making a splash with three metro winners!

Foxwedge stands at a fee of $11,000.

A proven Group I winning and producing sire, Foxwedge might not be considered as fashionable as he once was, but if you are of the mindset to breed a smart winner, he’s hard to go past at an $11,000 fee.

Foxwedge was in hot form on Saturday with a Rosehill victory for Bianco Vilano and Sandown wins for quality mares Barbie’s Fox and Foxicon.

A winner of over $450,000 in prizemoney, six year-old Barbie’s Fox was Group II placed at three and is still going strong for the Lindsay Park team winning the Benchmark 78 event by a couple of lengths at her second run back from a spell.

The Peter Moody trained Foxicon is a four year-old mare on the up winning her fifth race from just nine starts with a dominant victory in the Benchmark 84 event over 1000m under Carleen Hefel.

A modest $14,000 Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale purchase for Blue Blood Thoroughbreds, Foxicon has won over $262,000 and will no doubt be seeking Black Type in the future.

“The race played out really well to suit her as we thought there would be a nice bit of speed on and Carleen (Hefel) got her into a beautiful spot with a bit of cover and she was able to pop out and was too strong,” said assistant trainer Katherine Coleman.

“We’ll look to send her to Adelaide in a few weeks time for the Proud Miss Stakes and try and get a bit of Black Type.”

Foxicon is the first winner from Think Icon, an unraced So You Think daughter of Group I ATC Australian Oaks runner-up Think Money.
