$260,000 Record Price for King Colorado's Half Brother in Perth

Media Release - Sunday June 25

The half brother by Pride of Dubai to this month's Group One winning juvenile King Colorado today smashed the all time record price for the Magic Millions Perth Winter Yearling Sale when he sold for $260,000 in the Swan Valley.

Leading Sydney based trainer Bjorn Baker teamed up with a Hong Kong based client to secure the colt, a youngster by Pride of Dubai.

Sale-topper, the half-brother by Pride of Dubai to King Colorado.

Presented as a late supplementary lot as part of the Willow Dale Farm draft, the good looking chestnut colt beat the sales' previous record price of $200,000 set last year.

The colt's value rocketed earlier this month when his untapped half brother King Colorado won the Group One JJ Atkins Stakes in Brisbane at just his third start.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace prepared son of Kingman will be aimed at Spring Carnival riches after his impressive success at Eagle Farm.

Baker said he was excited about what the future may hold for today's record breaking youngster.

"I had a client who was interested in the horse and he is a really nice colt," Baker said. "We were both impressed when we saw him."

"We will get him over East and get him going and see what he can do! It's a nice bonus that he is a Magic Millions yearling as well."

"(King Colorado) is a very good horse no doubt about that," Baker added. "He will be able to give this colt a real kick along."

Grant and Alana Williams went to $100,000 to secure the day's second top seller - the Playing God-Mazij yearling colt.

$100,000 colt by Playing God.
Offered by Gervase Park Stud, the youngster is a half brother to the stakes winner Amanaat and is by the state's current leading sire who is based at Darling View Thoroughbreds.

Earlier, Adam Durrant went to $90,000 for the Rubick colt from Fiftyshadesofgrey who was offered by Western Breeders Alliance.

The Perth Winter Yearling Sale grossed over $1.18 million for 47 lots sold at an average price of $25,255 and clearance rate of over 78 per cent.

Later in the afternoon a further $139,500 was traded at the Perth Winter Thoroughbred Sale with 33 lots selling at a clearance of 92 per cent.

The top selling weanling was Lot 122 - the Snippetson filly from the five time winner Madam Torio. She was offered by J Farms and purchased by Murray Johnson for $20,000.

"It was a solid day of trade," Magic Millions WA Manager David Houston said. "The half brother to King Colorado was the obvious standout - selling for $260,000."

"It was great to see interstate and international interest in the colt and it was great to see him break the sale record which was set last year at $200,000."

"The Perth Winter Sale has a great record of producing top results for buyers and we are confident this will continue following today's auction," Houston added.
