What Pedigree Features Do 250 Horses of the Year Have in Common?

Media Release - Wednesday July 12

Trying to work out what particular attributes in horses’ pedigrees make some horses fast and others slow has been a challenge for breeders, owners and trainers for countless years.

To shed light on this matter, the Pedigrees 360 team has employed AI and Machine Learning in their pedigree software, meticulously entering thousands of pedigrees spanning nine generations.

The software has unearthed several shared features amongst these 250 Horses of the Year, although they remain tight-lipped about their precise nature. To find out they are inviting us to attend one of their Pedigree Masterclass Workshops taking place nationwide over the next two months.

Renowned pedigree expert Leo Tsatsaronis who will be running the workshops said, “This is just one of the many topics we will be discussing and providing revelations about. We will also be discussing why some super sires, who produce multiple Group 1 winners year after year, seriously underperform when it comes to being broodmare sires. Some of these wonderful sires haven’t had a Group 1 winner as a broodmare sire in the last 10 years. Why? Well, we believe our software has provided the answer by identifying a unique pedigree attribute that they have in common.”

Other compelling topics that will be discussed include

  • Horses of the Year Insights
  • Critical Mass
  • The X-Path Theory
  • Full and ¾ Siblings
  • What is a Sex-Balanced Blue Wall?
  • Underperforming broodmare sires - Our theory
  • Thoroughbred Moneyball – Statistics
  • Super mares that have produced 3+ Group 1 Winners

“In the 12 months we have been operating the Pedigrees 360 programme, it has revealed numerous fascinating insights into what pedigree attributes appear in the pedigrees of elite horses and those that appear in slow horses. It really isn’t surprising then that the programme has been enthusiastically embraced by leading breeders, agents and trainers both here in Australia and overseas, particularly in the U.S. and U.K,” Tsatsaronis said.

“There is also a clear thirst amongst elite breeders to incorporate deep linebreeding principles into their mating breeding programmes, principles that were adopted and refined by some of the greatest minds in the world, minds that have shaped the breed as we know it.”

The workshops will be held in Sydney, Melbourne, Scone, Gold Coast and Adelaide. In Sydney and Melbourne, Tsatsaronis will be joined by fellow pedigree analyst Michael Marosa.

Tsatsaronis is predicting that PADDINGTON , UK’s outstanding 3YO, will emerge as the best horse in the world over the next 12 months and will become a sensational stallion.

Tsatsaronis explained, “PADDINGTON has almost the perfect linebred pedigree  - high clusters, high critical mass, sex-balanced, with 2 sets of  siblings, everything you want in an elite racehorse and stallion. These are all the attributes breeders should be striving for when mating their mares."
