King of Naples Keeps Winners Coming for Your Song

Tara Madgwick - Saturday July 29

Gooree Stud based Your Song had a treble of winners on Friday and kept the ball rolling on Saturday when his progressive three year-old King of Naples scored a determined win in the Benchmark 72 event at Randwick.

Trained by John O’Shea, King of Naples was a last start winner at Canterbury and repeated the effort in tougher grade to win the 1300m contest by a neck for Nash Rawiller over the favourite Plundering.

A $170,000 Inglis Classic purchase for his trainer from the Gooree Park draft, King of Naples has been very consistent with the overall record of four wins and five placings from 13 starts with prizemoney in excess of $200,000.

He is the best of three winners from stakes-placed Ocean Tempest, a half-sister by Bel Esprit to stakes-winner Ruling Dynasty and to the dam of stakes-winner Ever The Same.

King of Naples comes from the best family in the Australian Studbook claiming Dancing Show (USA) as his third dam with his stakes-placed grand-dam Makarova being a half-sister to Group I winners Umatilla, Hurricane Sky and to the dam of Redoute’s Choice.

Gooree Park bought Makarova at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in 1999 when the daughter of Kentucky Derby winner Thunder Gulch (USA) topped the sale at $1.2million.

A Group I winning son of Fastnet Rock, Your Song stands at Gooree Park at a fee of $5,500.
