$1.45million Colt for Extreme Choice

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 11

Newgate Farm is home to outstanding sire Extreme Choice and he rewarded Henry Field and his team on Thursday at Magic Millions when they sold one of his best colts for $1.45million to Rosemont Stud/Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA)/Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott.

The third foal of Group III placed imported Street Boss mare Euroboss (USA), he had an important pedigree update in the lead up to the sale when his half-sister in the US, High Class won the Listed Poinsettia Stakes at Oaklawn Park.

“He was a horse that through the week that there was a lot talk of amongst my colleagues and trainers, so we were really just hopeful more than anything to get him,” said Suman Hedge.

“Obviously, we had to push ourselves to the limit, but we’re really happy to secure him.”

This colt is the second million dollar yearling at this sale for fertility challenged Extreme Choice, who stands at a fee of $275,000, with his other seven figure horse the colt from Wanted Lady that made $1.6million to the bid of James Harron Bloodstock.

“There’s obviously a limited number of them that are available,” Hedge commented.

“The horse has done an incredible job at stud and I think also as the sale progresses and you see other colts going through, it sets some benchmarks for the ones that you like.

“With the one going through yesterday (from Wanted Lady) selling really well, we knew this one was going to be quite a challenge to get.

“To have Waterhouse/Bott in the team to try and secure the horse, that was really helpful as well, so we’re glad that it’s going to go to a great stable.”

Bought from the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale in 2019 by Newgate for $US350,000, Euroboss produced a colt by Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside last spring and is now back in foal to Extreme Choice.
