First Season – What’s in the Pipeline?

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday May 14

The first season sires division is a hugely competitive one and with just two and a half months of the season to run the race to be champion first season sire by winners and earnings in still up for grabs with less than half a million separating the top five contenders which got us thinking about what might be in the pipeline for these sires and what percentage of their foal crop we have seen to date.

Click to see the full list at Breednet.

The leading first season sires table by earnings for Australia is shown above and already based on this data the farms standing these sires have set their fees accordingly with the top five all given significant rises.

Darley have boosted Too Darn Hot (GB) from $44,000 to $110,000.

Newgate gave raised Tassort from $11,000 to $38,500.

Yulong have raised Pierata from $44,000 to $66,000 and Alabama Express from $22,000 to $55,000.

Lovatsville have raised Royal Meeting (IRE) from $11,000 to $22,000.

Judgment has been swift and is based on a small percentage of their foal crop to have raced so far, but how small and where are all the unraced horses?

Breednet’s first season sire unraced trial report shows you exactly where the unraced horses are that have progressed enough to trial and you can click here to see that.

Below we’ve taken a look at the foal numbers and runners to see what percentage of their foal crop have raced (all countries) and we’ve looked at active sires with 50 or more first crop foals according to Arion and they are sorted by percentage of foal crop to race so far.
