MyRacehorse Celebrate US G1 and Aussie Success

Media Release - Monday May 20

It’s party time! Over 2,500 MyRacehorse owners in the US celebrated over the weekend after winning the second leg of the prestigious American Triple Crown of racing, the $2 million (USD) Group 1 Preakness Stakes, with star three-year-old colt Seize The Grey.

Seize the Grey runs for MyRacehorse owners!

He led all the way to score by over 2 lengths for legendary trainer D. Wayne Lukas.

MyRacehorse is a global ownership platform that syndicates its horses to owners, via micro-shares. With over 100,000 owners across Australia and the US, MyRacehorse makes the inherently inaccessible of owning elite bloodstock running in the best races around the world a possibility for all racing fans.

MyRacehorse Global CEO and Founder, Michael Behrens, was at Pimlico surrounded by a mass of overjoyed owners as Seize The Grey went from post to post to secure a 2 ¼ length win in the Preakness Stakes.

"There was so much excitement. There were tears. For us to unlock that and let people know anybody can participate and have this kind of moment, I think is going to be big for the business. It's big for racing and I am super excited to be a part of it," Michael Behrens said.

"When you do a venture like this you aspire to navigate all of the troubles in horse racing. It's a tough sport. It's tough to get new ownership. But days like this make it all worth it. This means everything to our business," Michael Behrens continued.

A son of the late Arrogate, who was the World’s Best Racehorse in 2016 and had shown enormous promise in his early days at stud, Seize The Grey was coming off a last-start Group 2 victory and defied double-figure odds to dominate his rivals. The Preakness is the middle leg of the famous Triple Crown of stallion-making three-year-old Group 1 races, starting earlier this month with the Kentucky Derby and finishing with the Belmont Stakes (where Seize The Grey will likely head next) in early June.

Seize the Grey looks destined for a lucrative career at stud.

It is the second Triple Crown victory for MyRacehorse owners after the Bob Baffert-trained Authentic clinched the Kentucky Derby in 2020 before also winning the Breeders’ Cup Classic and becoming one of America’s hottest stallions.

A lucrative career at stud surely beckons for the highly popular Seize The Grey. While he already holds immense value as a Group 1-winning colt, victory in the upcoming Belmont to secure two-thirds of the Triple Crown would make him one of the most promising stallion prospects in recent memory.

Seize The Grey was a $300,000 purchase at the 2022 Saratoga Yearling Sale and owners were able to buy in for a one-off micro-share price of only $127.

“This is exactly what MyRacehorse represents. We strive to make elite racing affordable to all racing fans. There are now over 2,500 owners in Seize The Grey who bought in from $127 (USD) and have won a $2 million (USD) race. He is backed by an extremely valuable pedigree that carries on the Arrogate legacy for a life after racing. We couldn’t be more thrilled for the team and wait with anticipation as Seize The Grey attempts to take on the Belmont Stakes,” Managing Director, MyRacehorse Australia, Ben Willis.

Sneaky Sunrise wins at Flemington - image Racing Photos

It adds to what was already an exciting weekend in Australia after two-year-old Hayes-trained filly Sneaky Sunrise stormed to a 1.5-length victory at Flemington on Saturday, stamping her credentials as a potential Group I contender in the spring.

Her sire, Arrowfield Stud’s, The Autumn Sun, has enjoyed an incredible month with his first crop of foals producing an incredible three separate Group 1 victories by three-year-old fillies (Autumn Angel in the Australian Oaks, Vibrant Sun in the Australasian Oaks and Coco Sun in the South Australian Derby). There is plenty of reason for optimism with Sneaky Sunrise’s three-year-old season ahead, based both on what she has shown to date along with her tantalising upside.

There are plenty of other exciting horses in our Australian stables to keep an eye on, so whether it’s Sneaky Sunrise or one of many others, we hope to very soon be adding another Group 1 to the honour roll after Just Fine’s superb victory in the G1 Metropolitan at Randwick last September.
