Spirit Of Boom's Golden Boom Captures XXXX Chief De Beers Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday May 25

It just wouldn’t be a Brisbane Carnival without a stakes-winner by Spirit Of Boom, and Golden Boom rose to the challenge in the Listed XXXX Chief De Beers Stakes (1100m) at Doomben on Saturday.

Ridden by Craig Williams for Tony Gollan, Golden Boom was rewarded for his consistency when defeating The Big Goodbye (Host) by a half-length with At Witz End (Epaulette), the same distance back in third.

With his maiden stakes success, Golden Boom advances his record to five wins, two seconds, and two thirds from 11 starts with earnings of $571,700.

“I guess the lightweight aided him with 53kg on his back. We only had one plan and that was it, to get out, get on our bike and get moving,” Gollan revealed.

“I wasn’t really sure first-up off the break on this sort of ground if it was going to be testing on him and he’d have to do a lot of work.

“He’s always been a quality horse from the first day we stepped him out. He hasn’t been without a few issues in his career, but it is great to see him back during the carnival winning a stakes race because he is one of the more talented horses I train.”

“It is great having him (Williams) here. All of these southern jockeys add so much to the carnival; when we can get them on amongst the best of our Brisbane riders, it certainly adds to everything.

“He rode a maiden winner for us at Ipswich on Wednesday and happy to be here on a horse like this for us today. I hope he’s not done yet.”

Bred by Asco International, Golden Boom was a $150,000 purchase for Archer Park Racing from the Element Hill draft at the 2021 Magic Millon Gold Coast Yearling Sale

He is the best of two winners from as many foals left by the Encosta De Lago mare Golden Falls, a sister to South African Group II winner Dane De Lago out of the Listed Reginald Allen Hcp winner The Golden Dane, who was runner-up in the Group 1 ATC Flight Stakes.

Sadly, Golden Falls died in 2020, and Golden Boom is her final foal.

Golden Boom is the 26th stakes-winner for Eureka Stud’s Spirit Of Boom.
