New 2YO Stakes-Winner Too Darn Hot

Tara Madgwick - Sunday July 28

Set to be crowned Champion Australian First Season Sire of 2023/2024, Too Darn Hot (GB) added a new stakes-winner to his tally in the UK overnight at Ascot where two year-old filly Simmering won the Group III Princess Margaret Stakes (6f).

Trained by Ollie Sangster and ridden by Ryan Moore, Simmering was placed at her first two starts including a second at Royal Ascot in the Group III Albany Stakes to Fairy Godmother.

She brought that good from to this race and was sent out favourite arriving on the line under a well timed run to win by a neck.

“I think she has won it nicely in the end, despite having a few traffic problems and hopefully she will take another step forward–Ryan said he thinks she will and said she was still a bit green coming through horses there. Ryan said he would advise going up to seven furlongs next time, so we will have to have a look at the schedule,” said Ollie Sangster.

Simmering was purchased for 70,000 guineas from the Tattersalls October Book 2 Yearling Sale by Ollie Sangster and Justin Casse, but earlier this week was sold to Al Shaqab Racing in whose colours she won.

“The ownership changed at about half past nine on Thursday and it was pretty manic in the office. I've grown up watching Al Shaqab and Sheikh Joaan's good horses like Toronado and Treve and all those other good horses, so for them to buy into a horse in our yard is a privilege,” said Sangster.

Simmering is the second winner from Cashla Bay, a winning Fastnet Rock daughter of Group III winner Rose Blossom.

She is the 12th stakes-winner for Dubawi’s champion son Too Darn Hot, who is not coming back to Darley NSW after spending the last four seasons shuttling to the Hunter Valley. He covered 1222 mares last spring at a fee of $44,000.

Too Darn Hot (GB) will not be in Australia this spring.
