Initial Entries of SH Covered Mares for Tattersalls Online December Sale Announced

Media Release - Saturday November 9

The first entries for the highly anticipated collaboration between Tattersalls Online and Inglis Digital have been confirmed and they include three mares in foal to Too Darn Hot, currently the leading second crop sire in Australia with five stakes-winners this season.

The Southern Hemisphere Session which is scheduled to take place on Tattersalls Online on 11th – 12th December is a unique offering of mares covered to Southern Hemisphere time which will be promoted globally by the two of the world’s most respected bloodstock auctioneers.

Too Darn Hot (GB) sadly did not shuttle to Australia this spring.

The three mares, that are certain to whet the appetite of breeders around the world, have been confirmed in foal to international sire sensation TOO DARN HOT who has made an outstanding start to his career at stud.

Progeny of TOO DARN HOT have enjoyed tremendous success on the racetrack headlined by Champion Australian two-year-old and triple Group 1 winner BROADSIDING, Group 1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas winner FALLEN ANGEL and the Group 1 Futurity Trophy winner HOTAZHELL.

“TOO DARN HOT has made an extraordinary start to his career at stud, particularly in Australia and given he is covering a limited book to Southern Hemisphere time, opportunities to acquire a mare in foal to him are very scarce,” Tattersalls Online Sales Manager Katherine Sheridan said.

“He has 11 black type horses from his first Australian crop already and they are still just spring three-year-olds, so it’s exciting to think where things might progress to with him over the next 12 – 24 months.”

The trio of mares are led by dual Group 3 placed GALILEO mare KNOW THYSELF, an accomplished race filly that performed at the highest level internationally.

Know Thyself will be offered in foal to Too Darn Hot.

A dual winner, she was Group/Listed placed on four occasions, including when runner-up in the Group 3 Prix Vanteaux. That particular effort saw her beaten by no less than five-time Group 1 winning star MQSE DE SEVIGNE, the mare who defeated VIA SISTINA in her penultimate European start in the Group 1 Prix Jean Romanet. KNOW THYSELF boasts a pedigree that will be familiar to Southern Hemisphere breeders, being out of the triple Group 2 winner FIX, the daughter of IFFRAAJ who was also placed in the Group 1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas and Group 1 New Zealand Derby.

Another mare sure to attract plenty of attention is the Group 2 placed SEDAKA. The lightly raced winning daughter of New Zealand’s nine-time Champion sire SAVABEEL was second in the Group 2 Royal Stakes and Group 3 Sunline Vase at Te Rapa during her race career. Consigned by Watership Down Stud, she is out of a winning  half-sister to multiple Listed winner and multiple Group/Listed placed ODEAN. She hails from the family of top-class Group 1 winning sprinters BRANDO and RECKLESS ABANDON, Group 1 winning two-year-old CROWDED HOUSE and International Group 1 winners BEAUTY ETERNAL, TICKER TAPE and TRIBALIST.

Three-year-old filly CRIMSON CORONET also looks set to attract international interest, being by Champion sire ZOUSTAR, sire of multiple Group 1 winners in both hemispheres. She is out of Listed Chalice Stakes winner CRIMSON ROSETTE who also placed second in the Group 3 Pinnacle Stakes and third in the Group 3 Princess Royal Stakes. CRIMSON ROSETTE is herself a half-sister to joint Champion Stayer COURAGE MON AMI, winner of the Group 1 Gold Cup at Royal Ascot. With a deep Hascombe and Valiant Studs pedigree, she is also a close relative to Australian Listed winner ASTRONOMOS.

Entries for the Southern Hemisphere Session of the Tattersalls Online December Sale are by application until Friday 22nd November.
