Uluru Stud Celebrates Summer Sham's Triumph in Angus Armanasco Stakes

Mark Smith - Sunday February 25

The win of the Danny O'Brien-trained Summer Sham in the Group II Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield was a huge result for her owner Uluru Stud and vindicated its decision to purchase her dam Hot Summer Night for $300,000 at the 2014 Teeley Assets Dispersal.

Hot Summer Night was carrying the daughter of Not A Single Doubt at the time of her sale.

Not overly robust, Summer Sham took her record to three wins from as many starts.

"There is not much of her, I was worried she was going to get blown off her feet in the wind," O'Brien said.

"But sometimes we overthink the wind, you never know how much weight to put into it.

"From her barrier, we were always pretty committed that we were going to be the leader and you don't often see horses jump a length and a half ahead like she did today.

"She was brilliant from the gate and gave nothing else a chance from there.

"They all get beaten, apart from Black Caviar, but it is nice this filly hasn't been beaten yet."

The Group II Kewney Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on March 10 is likely to be the next start for Summer Sham.

The first foal of her dam Hot Summer Night (Fusiachi Pegasus), Summer Sham descends from the family of the great Redoute's Choice.

Granddam Unspoken Choice (Giant's Causeway) is a half-sister to Arrowfield Stud's breed-shaper as well as Manhattan Rain, Platinum Scissors, Echoes Of Heaven and Sliding Cube (the dam of Rubick).

Hot Summer Night has a 2yo colt and yearling filly by Fastnet Rock and a colt foal by Written Tycoon.

Summer Sham becomes the 51st stakes-winner for Not A Single Doubt who has 8 lots catalogued for the Inglis Premier and 19 heading to Easter.
