It’s never a long wait for the next Newhaven Park bred and sold stakes-winner to arrive with talented filly The Playwright taking out the Group III ATC Widden Stud Stakes last Saturday and it might not be long until the next with Cool Aza Beel colt Cobra Club engaged to run in the $2million Inglis Millennium.

A $60,000 Magic Millions purchase from Newhaven Park for Tricolours Racing, Written By filly The Playwright has won two of four starts earning $734,500 to the great delight of her big team of owners and this week it will be the turn for the Darby Racing owners involved with Cobra Club.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained colt was bought by Darby Racing at Inglis Classic last year for $70,000 and recouped his purchase price on debut when finishing a close second in the $500,000 ATC Inglis Nursery (1000m) on December 14.

He tuned up with a recent barrier trial win on January 20 and is primed for a good showing at Randwick on Saturday in the $2million Inglis Millennium (1100m).

Newhaven Park’s young gun sire Cool Aza Beel has made a strong start with his first five runners producing four to place highlighted by stakes horses Cobra Club and Cool Archie as well as the New Zealand winner Cool Aza Rene.

Fourth foal of Group III placed Emphatically, a half-sister to stakes-winner Tudor from the family of stakes-winner Moshki, the dam of Nadal, winner of the $1million Ladbrokes The Meteorite. Dam has had two to race and both are winners.

By Xtravagant, the sire of stakes-winning fillies Lavish Girl, Arts, Devoted and Xtravagant Star. Third foal of unraced mare by champion sire Snitzel from the family of Champion 2YO Filly and 3YO Filly English.

 

Lot 246 Colt Cool Aza Beel x Gesture, by Medaglia D’Oro (USA)

Third foal of unraced daughter of Group II placed Sweepstaking tracing back to the famed ‘Tennessee’ family that has produced Group I winenrs Malaguerra, Seabrook and Aloha.

 

Lot 313 Filly Cool Aza Beel x Idol, by Fastnet Rock

Half-sister to two winners with Idol Shot winning after the catalogue went to print, so dam has had two to race both winners and is from the family of stakes-winners Danehill Smile and Home Ground.

 

Lot 344 Filly Exceed and Excel x Julianne’s Wish, by Monashee Mountain (USA)

One of only two fillies in this sale by champion sire Exceed and Excel. First foal of a winning half-sister to stakes-winner The Star of Geely and stakes-placed Tibrogargan Miss from the family of prolific Queensland Group winner Buck’s Pride.
