Girls vs Men

Tara Madgwick - Friday March 23
Four stakes races at Moonee Valley on Friday night are highlighted by the Group I MVRC William Reid Stakes with last year's Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign and Blue Diamond winner Catchy facing off against eight rivals, four of them entires looking for victory and a ticket to a stud career.

PariahTalented Redoute's Choice colt Pariah is first up from a spell in this weight-for-age sprint and Peter and Paul Snowden will be hoping he can repeat the performance of his stablemate Russian Revolution, who won the MRC Oakleigh Plate first up and was subsequently retired.

A $700,000 Inglis Easter purchase for James Harron Bloodstock from the Arrowfield Stud draft, Pariah has already won two races and finished second three times. He has Black Type on the board as a two time Group III winner with a second to Catchy in the Blue Diamond his best effort in elite company.

Arrowfield Stud bought into the colt at the end of his two year-old season so a Group I win on the resume is of high importance.

Yarraman Park share in the ownership of I Am Invincible's speedy son Hellbent, who was second in this race last year to Silent Sedition with third place-getter Star Turn now on the Vinery Stud roster.

Beaten by a small margin when third in the Group I MRC Oakleigh Plate at his last start, this Darren Weir trained five year-old is overdue for an elite win.

ThronumAlso overdue for an elite win is six year-old Sebring stallion Supido trained by Mick Kent. A Group III winner last year, Supido was fourth in the Group I VRC Lightning Stakes and fifth in the Newmarket, so is thereabouts at this level.

Sun Stud owned Snitzel four year-old Thronum won the Group II MVRC Australia Stakes here three starts back and was then fourth to Hartnell in the Group I MRC CF Orr Stakes. Last start was below par in the Newmarket, but could easily go better here around a turn on a track he likes.

Stay tuned for all the action tonight and click here for Moonee Valley Sale Mail.

Recent winners of this race include Australia's current red hot young sire Spirit of Boom and proven Group I sire Foxwedge, so if a colt wins this race tonight it will be significant.

Spirit of Boom wins the 2014 Group I William Reid Stakes, who will win in 2018?
