Fiorente Gets His 2 Mile Cup Winner - Half By A Slipper Winner at Easter

Craig Tompson - Monday March 10

Melbourne Cup hero Fiorente has finally, a bit poetically and a bit sadly, sired a two-mile Cup winner and you can buy the half-brother at Inglis Easter by a Golden Slipper winner.

Silent Surrente wins the 2025 Adelaide Cup

The Will Clarken and Niki O’Shea trained mare Silent Surrente went into the Group II Adelaide Cup as the best chance of the locals against a barrage of interstate raiders and with the help of a wise ride from young apprentice Rochelle Milnes saw them off.

Drawing poorly, Milne and Silent Surrente were left posted early as the field settled, however the young rider patiently worked her mount forward thanks to a pedestrian pace and by the time she got comfortably clear had a happy horse and an advantage.

At the finish it told, she quickened at the right time and never faced a serious challenger, beating Newfoundland (Deep Impact) by 1.2 lengths with Grand Pierro (Pierro) third.

Fiorente was famously the first, and thus far, only Melbourne Cup winner for Gai Waterhouse, having finished second in the year prior.

Sadly he died in 2023 having stood for nine seasons at stud and Silent Surrente becomes his 11th stakes winner.

Silent Surrente is the third stakes winner along with Silent Sovereign and Silent Command for outstanding producer Silent Surround (Face Value), a Group III winner of the South Australian Sires Produce.

She changed hands at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale in 2022 in foal to The Autumn Sun, bought by Michael Freedman Racing for $220,000 when offered by Kulani Park.

Her yearling, by Stay Inside is set to be offered as Lot 165 at the Inglis Australian Easter Sale in April by Sledmere Stud.

She also foaled to Stay Inside last season and was returned to him.

There’s also a filly from the family at the Magic Millions Gold Coast March Sale in Lot 263 by Prince Fawaz with Oaklands Stud.
