Invincible Filly Scores Debut Victory in Dequetteville Stakes

Tara Madgwick - Saturday April 5

I Am Invincible had an impressive debut stakes-winner in Adelaide on Saturday when the Clayton Douglas trained filly Blue Hotel charged to the line to win the Listed SAJC Dequetteville Stakes (1000m) at Morphettville.

A homebred for Jonathan Munz, Blue Hotel finished off with a late rush for Todd Pannell, accelerating hard to win by a length and a half running away from $1.25million Snitzel filly Boa Vista with another blue-blood I Am Invincible filly in Sisstainable in third place.

“She's a lovely filly. She's still got a little bit to learn, but she's shown me a lot of ability at home and it's good to see her go and do it,” said Clayton Douglas, who had no hesitation in sending her out first time in a stakes race.

“We think she's a good horse and obviously she's a homebred for Jonathan Munz and the team at Pinecliff, so obviously she's a very valuable filly.

“She’s by a champion sire I Am Invincible from a stakes winning mare (Volcada), actually her mother won this race for my uncle Rocket (Rod Douglas), so it's good for her to come and win this race too.

“I thought she's above average and she showed that today.”

Clayton Douglas is in no rush to decide what’s next for the talented filly.

“We'll just get her home, you know it's always hard bringing a two-year-old away for the first time, but she's handled it really well,” he said/

“She may end up in Queensland, we'll just sort of work that out, but she's a lovely filly.”

I Am Invincible is the sire of Blue Hotel.

Blue Hotel is a half-sister to Group III winer Kaepernick and is the second stakes-winner among eight winners from nine foals to race from stakes-winning Stravinsky (USA) mare Volcada, who was also bred and raced by Jonathan Munz.

Blue Hotel comes from a prolific Black Type family tracing back to influential producer Gypsy Moss (IRE) with this branch of the family also producing Group I winning sprinter Spright.

Volcada was covered by Hellbent last spring so will be expecting a three-quarter sibling to Blue Hotel later this year.

Blue Hotel is the 117th stakes-winner for Yarraman Park’s champion sire I Am Invincible .
