Tempted Caps 2YO Year With G2 Percy Sykes Win

Craig Tompson - Saturday April 12

Godolphin’s top class Street Boss filly Tempted finalised her six start juvenile year with a powerful victory in the Group II The Star Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday, her second at that level.

Tempted has been a mainstay among the top echelon of youngsters this season with wins also including the Group II Reisling Stakes, and a mighty third in the Group I Golden Slipper last start where you could mount an argument she was unlucky not to win.

She drew wide in the Percy Sykes and while it looked briefly as though James McDonald might get in one off the rails, it didn’t happen, so he took hold and kept her happy three wide.

When presented widest into the straight she always looked the winner, going right on with a strong effort to beat Savvy Hallie (Hellbent) by 1.8 lengths with Within The Law (Lucky Vega) third.

The win takes her record to three wins, one second and one third from six starts with earnings of $1,417,400.

“She's an outstanding two-year-old filly and she got another opportunity to prove it in the championships here this afternoon,” said trainer James Cummings.

“Golden Slipper form's great form and she proved it despite the wide run, which we did feel on paper was inevitable as far as covering ground and facing the breeze goes, and that gave her the opportunity to show her class, and she did just that.”

“Rode her like the best one and she was too good,” said McDonald.

“She looked the winner a long way out there.”

Tempted is a half-sister to multiple Group winner Kalios (Medaglia D’Oro) out of Group II Magic Night Stakes and Listed Gimcrack Stakes winner Calliope.

Her third dam is VRC Oaks winner Bulla Borghese.

Calliope has a yearling colt by Pinatubo, already named Zambales. She had no foal last season and was served by Anamoe.

Tempted is one of 160 worldwide stakes winners with 28 in Australia for Street Boss who has stood 15 seasons at Darley Victoria.
