Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Thursday April 17

A busy set of trials at Warwick Farm on Thursday morning featured five heats for juveniles with winners including unraced youngsters by Zoustar, Hellbent and Bivouac.

The quickest of those juvenile heats over 816m was won by the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou trained Bivouac filly Litigate, a homebred for Corumbene Stud. A flashy little bay with a baldy face, she sped along in the lead for Nash Rawiller and was held to together to win by a length at her first outing.

The last foal of her dam Donna’s Appeal, Litigate is a half-sister to six winners including Group I winner Southern Legend from a family that boasts plenty of fast fillies with her grand-dam Donna Natalia and third dam Marskin both winners of the Group III ATC Gimcrack Stakes

Also having his first outing was the Ciaron Maher trained Zoustar colt Amarillo Sky, who did everything right. He jumped quickly to take the lead for Jason Collett on the fence and was ridden along to the line to score a narrow win.

A $500,000 Inglis Easter purchase for his trainer from Segenhoe Stud, Amarillo Sky is the first foal from well bred Fastnet Rock mare Goddess, a sibling to Group I winner Manuel and Group III winners Sun Patch and Taking Aim.

Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald put the polish on Hellbent gelding Spicy Bonus, who was asked to do more at his second trial and responded well to power home from back and wide winning by a neck.

Spicy Bonus was a $220,000 NZB Ready to Run purchase for Mr A Ng from the Riversley Park draft and was a successful pinhook albeit it took longer than anticipated. Sourced from the Magic Millions Weanling Sale for $80,000 by Riversley Park he was entered and withdrawn from Karaka Book 1 as a yearling before being sold at the Ready to Run.

Spicy Bonus is the first foal of metro winning Zoustar mare Fanciful Dream, who comes from the family of Group I VRC Oaks winner Bulla Borghese and this season’s star Group II winning juvenile filly Tempted.
