Investing in Fillies Can Pay Big Dividends

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday May 13

Now that the dust has settled from that stellar Inglis Chairman’s Sale last week, we thought it was worth taking a look back at the sale origins of the million dollar mares that were purchased as yearlings.

Bella Nipotina sold for $4.2million, but started life as an $80,000 Inglis Premier yearling.

Below are all the mares that sold for $1million or more off the track that were offered as yearlings with Too Darn Lizzie the highest priced yearling purchase and Grinzinger Belle the cheapest.

Too Darn Lizzie was a $1million Magic Millions purchase as a yearling.

What is interesting is that you don’t need a G1 win on the resume to sell for a million dollars or a lot more as an elite broodmare prospect. Click on any mare name to bring up their Breednet page with all their form, new stories, yearling images, full sale details including purchasers and vendors, plus tabulated pedigree.
