One to Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday May 14

A two year-old Zoustar filly that is a three-quarter sister-in-blood to Group I winner Mizzy and was purchased for a modest $250,000 as a yearling looks to have been well bought after making a winning debut at Randwick on Wednesday.

Trained by John O’Shea and Tom Charlton, Burn the Sky was set a task for her first start taking on 1400m and a heavy track against more experienced rivals including colts and geldings.

Easy in the market, she pleasantly surprised connections when surging to the line up the fence for Regan Bayliss to win by a length.

“I wasn't sure personally whether she could win on debut as she is a very big scopey filly as you would have seen,” said Tom Charlton.

“So I think whatever she can achieve this campaign, she's no doubt going to be a much better three-year-old.

“We'll have a think and see how she comes through the run, whether there's an option to give her another run or whether we tip her out now and she can have a nice period out  before the spring, where we can aim a bit higher.”

Burn the Sky was a $250,000 Magic Millions purchase.

A $250,000 Magic Millions purchase for John O'Shea Racing/James Bester Bloodstock from Widden Stud, she runs for a syndicate headed by long time stable client Ron Finemore with Widden also retaining an interest.

Bred by Widden Stud, Burn the Sky is the first foal of Combat Queen, a two time winning half-sister by Pierro to $1.8million earning Group I winning mare Mizzy and Group III winner She’s Got Pizzazz, who is also by Zoustar.

Combat Queen had another filly by Zoustar last year and was then covered by Stay Inside.
