Debut 2YO Winner for Brutal

Tara Madgwick - Friday July 11

Fresh from siring a smart metro winner at Sandown on Wednesday in Brutalina, Brutal was in the frame at Scone on Friday where Brett Cavanough unleashed a promising two year-old debut winner in Bird Whistle.

Sent off a short priced favourite for the 1200m maiden on the strength of a recent trial win at Scone, Bird Whistle produced a strong late surge to run past the Chris Waller trained three year-old filly Satin Sparkle.

The further they went, the better Bird Whistle let down and by the time they hit the post she was nearly two lengths clear of her older rival.

Bird Whistle is a homebred for Rob and Pam Crosby and is the second winner from well bred So You Think mare Think Like a Bird, who also bred and raced by the Crosby’s.

A three time winner up to 1700m, Think Like a Bird is a half-sister to Group I MRC Caulfield Cup  winner Southern Speed, who went to stud in Japan where she is the dam of Group II winner Cosmo Kuranda.

It’s a top class family that has also produced Golden Slipper winner Ha Ha and Group I winner Go Indy Go, so Bird Whistle has the pedigree to suggest the best is yet to come.

Brutal

Brutal has had a great season siring 28 winners in Australia (plus three in Hong Kong) headed by his Group I winning 2YO colt Nepotism, winner of the ATC Champagne Stakes (1600m).

Brutal stands at a fee of $16,500 this spring.
