One to Watch – Kembla

Tara Madgwick - Friday August 1

The Myracehorse owners that braved the cold and damp conditions at Kembla on Friday were well rewarded when their Farnan gelding Ninja trotted up to win by a widening 11 lengths!

Trained by Michael Freedman and ridden by Andrew Adkins, Ninja won his only two trials in June before being sent off favourite for a metro maiden at Randwick over 1100m.

He finished a close third on that occasion after getting back early and was duly sent to Kembla for a 1300m maiden today with the biggest hurdle to overcome the testing conditions of a heavy 9 track.

Taken straight to the front by Adkins, Ninja revelled in the task and was never off the bridle, cruising away from his rivals at the top of the straight to win as he pleased.

Ninja will take good confidence from the win and will no doubt make the grade in better class as he matures and strengthens.

He is the third winner from four foals to race from Impulsive, a metro winning half-sister by So You think to Group I winner Laisserfaire, Group III winner A Time for Julia and stakes-winners Time Thief, Foreplay and Personify, the dam of Group I VRC Oaks winner Personal.

Impulsive is the last foal of Group winning blue hen Procrastinate and was given a trip to the Northern Hemisphere in 2023 to be covered by champion French sire Siyouni.

She produced a colt from that mating last spring and is now due to foal to Anamoe.

Ninja is the first winner of the new season for Kia Ora Stud’s Farnan, who was the leading first crop sire by winners (14) for 2024/2025.

The Golden Slipper winning son of Not a Single Doubt stands at a fee of $77,000.
