Globe Half-Brother in 2025 NZB Ready to Run Sale

NZB had more than one reason to celebrate the front-running triumph by Globe (NZ) (Charm Spirit) in the A$1m Group One Might And Power Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Globe himself is a Karaka graduate, bought for $22,000 from Cambria Park’s draft in Book 2 of Karaka 2020. But just as significantly, breeder Barry Donoghue will offer Globe’s half-brother by Ace High as Lot 248 in next month’s NZB Ready to Run Sale.

The Might And Power Stakes was the sixth win of a 15-start career for Globe, who has placed on another four occasions and has now earned more than A$1.2m for an ownership group headed by syndicators Roll The Dice Racing.

Trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr had never previously raced Globe at Group One level, but they gave him his opportunity in the Might And Power and were richly rewarded.

“We get up every day and dream these dreams,” Price said. “This is fantastic for the owners, a big bunch of them.

“And the horse has spent his whole life earning A$600,000, and he just earned another A$600,000 in two minutes.”

A field of only four horses contested the Might And Power Stakes, and Globe was a distant third favourite behind the proven Group One stars Treasurethe Moment (Alabama Express) and Buckaroo (Fastnet Rock). But under a perfect front-running ride from Blake Shinn, Globe controlled the race and his rivals could not reel him in.

Shinn was able to conserve Globe’s energy with some easy sectionals through the middle stages of the race. When Treasurethe Moment tried to move up alongside him coming up to the home turn, Globe had plenty more up his sleeve for Shinn to call on.

Globe kicked hard in the straight and put himself out of Treasurethe Moment’s reach, going on to score a stunning three-length win.

“I knew the tactics had to be right to beat Treasurethe Moment and Buckaroo, who I’ve got the utmost respect for,” Shinn said. “And realistically he wasn’t a proven weight-for-age horse until today, so we were going in as a bit of the underdog.

“But as we’ve seen time and time again in these small fields, it’s quite tactical and an upset can happen more often than not. We went in there with no pressure as the obvious leader. Globe is a natural front-runner, and what a thrill to be able to pull it off.

“Treasurethe Moment came up to us at the turn, but I knew I had saved something up for the last 300 metres with the run we’d had. I got him to change to his off side fore about the 250 metres, and then he went into overdrive.

“Full credit to the horse, he gave me a lovely ride. Great work from the trainers, Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr. This is our second Group One winner together this season, and they've been great supporters of mine.

“This ownership group, Roll The Dice Racing, they put a lot of people into the game with their syndication. They've been big supporters of mine as well and just great people. So it's lovely to be able to reward the big ownership group here today.”

There is now sure to be plenty of interest in Globe’s half-brother, who will go through the Karaka sale ring early in the second day of the NZB Ready to Run Sale on 13 November.

In another notable result for the Ready to Run Sale at Caulfield on Saturday, last year’s graduate Planet Red (Admire Mars) produced a powerful finish for second in the prestigious A$3m Group One Caulfield Guineas (1600m). Planet Red was offered by Ohukia Lodge at the 2024 Ready to Run Sale and was bought by Mick Price Racing and Breeding for $260,000. His promising career has produced two wins and two placings from six starts, banking A$624,375 in prize-money.

The 2025 edition of the Ready to Run Sale, featuring Globe’s half-brother, will take place at the Karaka Sales Centre from 10am (NZT) on Wednesday 12 & Thursday 13 November. Breeze Ups will be held at Te Rapa Racecourse on Monday 20 & Tuesday 21 October.
