Blueblood Dundeel Mare Wins G3 Angst

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 18

Bred and sold by Torryburn Stud, talented Dundeel mare Idle Flyer has been brought quietly through the grades by her trainer Matthew Smith and she blossomed at Randwick on Saturday to win the $250,000 Group III ATC Angst Stakes (1600m).

Well ridden by Zac Lloyd, Idle Flyer was able to turn the tables on Perfumist, who beat her last time at Randwick two weeks ago.

Last time the margin was a length and a half and this time it was the same, but with the Dundeel mare in front to claim that valuable Black Type.

A $70,000 Inglis Classic purchase from Torryburn Stud for Mathew Smith Racing / Randwick Bloodstock Agency, Idle Flyer runs for a big group of stable clients and has the overall record of six wins from 11 starts with prizemoney just shy of $400,000.

Idle Flyer was a $70,000 Inglis Classic purchase from Torryburn Stud.

She is the best of three winners from well bred Street Cry (IRE) mare Progressive, a full sister to the dam of Group I winner Tom Kitten and stakes-winners Va Via and Promotions.

Progressive comes from the Twyla branch of the Dancing Show family that has produced G1 winners such as Gathering, Desert Lightning, In Italian and You Wahng, so Idle Flyer has become a very valuable broodmare prospect for the future.

Not surprisingly Matthew Smith has also purchased the current 2YO from Progressive, a colt by Russian Revolution that was snapped up from Torryburn Stud at Magic Millions this year for $75,000.

Progressive produced a filly by Tom Kitten’s sire Harry Angel (IRE) last spring and was then covered by Tassort.

Idle Flyer is the 39th stakes-winner for Arrowfield Stud based Dundeel, who stands at a fee of $88,000.
