One to Watch – Canterbury

Tara Madgwick - Friday November 28

Every now and again Richard Litt unearths a seriously good horse and he might have a well above average filly that cast off maiden status at Canterbury on Friday night which is good news for her full sister headed to Magic Millions 2026.

Three year-old Snitzel filly Caffe Florian is a striking girl that immediately takes the eye and she ran up to her good looks at her second start.

Ridden by Jason Collett, she powered clear to win the 1100m maiden by two lengths over blueblood Wootton Bassett (GB) colt Royal Air Force, the half-brother to Everest winner Think About It.

A $400,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Galletta Constructions Co. Pty Ltd from the Arrowfield Stud draft, Caffe Florian runs for Ottavio Galletta, who has enjoyed G1 success in the past with Litt trained colts Castlevecchio and Profondo.

Litt was expecting a good showing from Caffe Florian, who had come on well since her third placing when making her debut at Canterbury two weeks ago behind $3million I Am Invincible filly Earnaux.

“She’s still green and improving, but I really do think she is an exciting filly moving forward,” he said.

Caffe Florian comes with a big pedigree as a three-quarter sister to Group III winner Anders and stakes-winner Ostraka, while stakes-placed Battleground and Satin Love are her full siblings.

She is the sixth winner from seven foals to race from unraced War Emblem mare Madame Andree, who is also the grand-dam of Group winning colt Skyhook.

Arrowfield Stud will offer a Snitzel yearling filly from Madame Andree at Magic Millions 2026 as Lot 504 and the mare has foaled again this spring producing yet another filly by Snitzel.
