Sandbar 2YO Wins $50,000 Clan O’Sullivan

Tara Madgwick - Sunday December 28

A three-quarter brother to Golden Slipper winning sire Farnan, Kooringal Stud’s Sandbar is a bargain priced alternative for the breed to race owners and he produced a brilliant debut two year-old winner at Canberra on Sunday when Bar Jester landed the $50,000 Clan O’Sullivan (1000m).

A stakes-winning son of Snitzel, Sandbar put his name in lights last year with smart metro juvenile winner Shaggy coming from his first crop of foals and looks to have another nice youngster in his second crop.

Trained by Nick Olive and ridden by Coriah Keatings, Bar Jester did everything right and was strong to the line winning by a length and a half.

Bar Jester is a homebred for the Roughton family and they look like they are in for some fun with the promising gelding, who is the first winner from Sheezsingle, a five time country winner by Not a Single Doubt.

“He’s always shown us he’s a lovely horse and he’s just kept improving,” said Nick Olive, who will now look towards the Group III Canberra Black Opal Stakes next year.

Sandbar stood his first four seasons at a fee of $8,800 and then was raised to $13,200 when Shaggy emerged to win three races in succession earning nearly $190,000 in prizemoney.

Sandbar has sired four winners and nine place-getters from just 19 starters with Bar Jester the first winner from his second crop.
