Disneck Dominant in G3 Standish

Tara Madgwick - Saturday January 10

Five year-old gelding Disneck was the very first winner for Trapeze Artist when he won at Rosehill as a pre-Christmas 2YO and three years on he’s never been going better with a barnstorming win in the $200,000 Group III VRC Standish Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on Saturday his first stakes win.

Trained by Bjorn Baker and ridden by Daniel Stackhouse, Disneck was first up from a spell after an unplaced run at Flemington on the last day of the carnival when he failed to fire on the heavy track.

With firm footing and a well timed ride, Disneck finished like an express train, rounding up his rivals and charging clear to win by nearly two lengths with ears pricked.

"The plan was to get back obviously and follow Mark Zahara (on Aviatress)," Stackhouse said.

"I knew his horse would give us a good run into the race.

"He's really effective when he's ridden cold like that. He's got a great turn of foot and you can see that he's got there almost too early.

"He pricked his ears, but he just was going so well and he just put himself into the race that quickly, but it was a nice win and that's a good start to his preparation."

Bred by Phoenix Thoroughbreds, Disneck was a $200,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Gooree Park draft for Bjorn Baker Racing / Clarke Bloodstock (FBAA) and has a prominent baldy face like his sire.

He is the best of two winners from a speedy imported stakes-winner in Lindisfarne (USA), a half-sister by City Zip to Group I placed stakes-winner Flora Dora.

On-sold for just $7,000 through Inglis Digital in May of 2021, Lindisfarne produced a filly by So You Think last spring before visiting Traffic Warden.

Disneck is the ninth lifetime stakes-winner for Trapeze Artist and is his fourth in Australia this season joining Panova, Piggyback and exciting two year-old filly Where’s The Circus.

Trapeze Artist has 15 entries for Magic Millions and a dozen for Inglis Classic.
