King of Roseau Brings Full Circle Moment for Capitalist and Snowden

Media Release - Saturday January 17

A decade after Peter Snowden won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic with Capitalist, the champion trainer saddled up the stallion’s son King Of Roseau to win the $2 million Magic Millions Cup (1400m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

King Of Roseau fought tenaciously over the final 100m to hold off the looming threat of Boomtown Boss after the pair reeled in tearaway leader Moravia halfway up the straight.

The winner was a $95,000 purchase by Pulse Racing Thoroughbreds and Pinhook Bloodstock International from the Ashleigh Thoroughbreds draft at 2023 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

King of Roseau is the second and final foal of Dominica, a Choisir daughter of Group I winner Danni Martine. His breeder Senga Bissett, who bred his mother and his grand-mother has retained a small share.

She can certainly produce a good Capitalist having also bred and sold his first Group I winner Captivant!

King Of Roseau has now won five races and more than $2 million in prizemoney and bonuses.

An emotional Snowden said it was a deserved win for a large group of everyday Australians within the four-year-old’s ownership group.

“It’s a super day,” Snowden said.

“It’s fantastic to see him win and win a race worth this sort of money.

“There wasn’t much between five horses in the last 200m but he was tough.

“He’s been working towards a peak performance and he did today.

“It’s good to have nice horses.

“You never get tired of this (winning feeling) and when you do you should probably give it away.”

Snowden bought six yearlings in Book 1 at the 2026 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sales, including two fillies by Capitalist.

Winning jockey Tom Sherry was on the Gold Coast for one ride and said he was happy to deliver for connections in the lucrative race.

“It’s easy when you have the stock," Sherry said.

“He’s been prepared really well with the two good lead-up runs and we had a beautiful ride around there today.

“He’s got a great determination and as soon as he got out, I was quite confident.

“I thought I had him (Boomtown Boss) covered but it’s only when you cross the line in front that you can breathe a sigh of relief.

“My first time riding at the Gold Coast was last week so it’s good to get a winner at the carnival.”
